Hi there...

I'm new to this group. I'm looking to lose weight, so I looked for groups on LJ and I found you guys. I was always chunky, but lately I have been gaining more and more weight and I'm starting to feel out of control. I am currently 165lbs with only being 5"1', not exactly healthy. Not only do I want to slim down, but I also want to get healthier and eat healthier. I am an absolute chocoholic. I can't stay away from the stuff. That and bagels. Which is probably my problem. I went onto FitDay and I'm doing the online journal thingy. I was actually surprised at the amout of calories I'm bringing in. (But they are not the best calories).

I have amazing support at home. My entire family and my boyfriend are behind me. But hearing it from them is easy, especially when they are not struggling with the same problem. I really started to watch what I'm eating, and I'm eating a lot more fruit then I used to. I want to do tae-bo, I have the Billy Blanks Bootcamp tapes, but it's hard to find the time. I have no time in the morning, so I try to do it when I get home from work, but that is tough because my parents will always interupt me for something. I'm going on this Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover diet next week. You eat six small meals every day.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I could do? I want to get down to atleast 125/130 by Christmas, but my goal is 115 by Christmas.

Looking for a new fitness program? How about trying the Presidential Fitness Challenge. This challenge comes in three varieties:

1. The Active Lifestyle Program - For those of you who aren't active on a daily basis yet, this is a great way to begin. The rules are basically to get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks.

2. The Presidential Champions Program - If you're already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you. Your goal is to see how many points you can earn by staying active. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you'll get. When you reach 20,000 points, you'll earn a Bronze award. Then you can continue on in the Presidential Champions program for a Silver or Gold award.

3. The Advanced Performance Presidential Champions Program - This is basically the same system as the Presidential Champions Program, except that the award goals are higher. For instance, you need to get 40,000 points to earn a Bronze award.

The Presidential Champions Fitness Program Website (where you can log your progress and also order your awards when you've reached your goal)

Also, if you want, come join the LJ pres_challenge community to chat with others who are challenging themselves with this program.

Subject:surprisingly doing well!

We moved 5 weeks ago, and I misplaced my scale! I hadn't been paaying much attention to my diet, but still wasn't drinking a lot of sugared pop. I was however eating some cake and cookies!

We have STEEP steps at our house and use them ALL the time (our family room is downstairs as well as the spare fridge and extra pantry area for cooking)! I have been very busy with settling up the house, too, and doing lots of laundry.

Therefore, I guess all my exercise has cancelled out the goodie calories (ha hee!) because my stats are:

I've lost about 5 pounds!

My measurements are the same.

New goals - not to gain over the holidays, and to drink enough water and eat enough veggies and fruits. I also want to begin doing my yoga tape 3x a week.

If I was 165 by new year's I'd be very exstatic!

Haven't had time to write in here, but good progress last few months.

Wow, I was kind of surprised this week! Had a bad week, didn't focus too much on eating except for making sure I still abstained pretty much from sugar. I lost 1 1/2 pounds and another 3/4 inch! Down 11 1/2 pounds and 2 1/2 inches altogether.

Hey Guys

My friend is thinking of going on a weight loss program and I'm going with her for moral support. Only problem is, she can't decide which program. I'm thinking either Jenny Craig or La Weight Loss. Can you guys recommend a program or tell me about the two I mentioned? I will greatly appreciate it.

Subject:Diet Angst
Posted by:paradiz.

Mood: frustrated.
Hello again, this is just my 2and post but okay here goes. I've been on a diet that my nutritionist has had me starting since maybe end of march of this year and my our goal weight is 150, and to cut sugar and salt out of my diet to stop my 98 percent chance of getting diabetes or heart disease.

Since starting the diet it's been stressful, my moOds have been elevated and i've been feeling really alone in terms of support an sad. I usually would eat junk and extra food whenever i came across stress...so when stress comes about or physical stressors like FIbromyalgia it's been a real bEAR not to eat things other than the nutrionist's menu of food for me to eat sigh...

Last week when i saw her i lost almost 3 pounds. When i first saw her i weighed um 204 i think.
The last two weeks have been extra hard. Food that i have is not close to even being good to eat, shouldn't we enjoy at least 20 percent of what the new food we have to eat is? Sigh........It's just so rough LATELY.. argggg.. :{

I can't always afford the nutrionists weight loss shakes or products, but without them, It's even harder to stick to suppressing to eat more than i need to. I've discussed it with her, but she has to make money too, so nothing to do really. I'm just hoping I can stick to this diet until the 6 month program with her center is done, i at least want to keep the committment..so stinking ROUGH and sucks right now.

Really want a pint of hagen daz to help the emotional pain but there is nothing in my kitchen like that, so i do not have access, so i guess it's good.

SOrry to vent.. one of thOse days again.

I stuck pretty well to my Foodmover for a week, but then this week slid off. Things got crazy, and between drs. appointments we had this week for the kids (Ryan's hearing, dentists, etc.) we also got to deal with headlice all this weekend that my daughter caught from a friend. Ugh.

I hope to get started again tomorrow. I have been walking every day though which was good.

Stats 182/180/125

(I was 179.5 last week on Sunday, was 180 on Saturday).

Subject:I fell off the wagon...
Posted by:torena.
Time:10:57 am.
Mood: anxious.
Yep, I'm confessing. I fell off HARD. Gained back about 5 more pounds than I had to begin with. I've started back, though. With the help of my husband, we had to plan out a budget for getting food. My problem was eating out too much. It's really hard to count calories then. We went to the store this past weekend and I got a lot of yummy, healthy food. I have to remember to switch it up to make it more fun. I got tired of the string cheese/applesauce snack in the morning relatively quickly. I just had an apple and some of Breakstone's little snackpack cottage cheese for a snack. Not bad. :) Snyder's of Hanover makes organic Oat Bran pretzels that are REALLY GOOD. They're also not that bad for you (18 of them is 100 calories I believe - and that's a LOT!).

Anyway.. I'm back (hopefully). :P

Subject:hi 2 all, first entry on this community :-)
Posted by:paradiz.
Time:6:52 pm.
Mood: calm.
Hi everyone, my first entry on this community. I started with a nutritionist around the end of um march and when I was first seen my her I was 212lbs(I'm 5'3), and currently most recently I'm at 197lbs.

She has me on a no sugar,no salt, trigger foods(junk food)type of diet or lifestyle change I like to say instead of the word diet lol :-)

I'd love to make some friends to share support with and to support in this interesting challenge of losing weight.  For me it was a wake up call to better my health since I was told I was at risk for diabetes and heart disease if I continued having as much weight as I do.

Still not currently enjoying the new "menu" of food i'm eating, however getting use to the type of salads, and though nausea is still happening alot i've been able to get down 6 to 8 glasses of water which took me a while to get to so for that I'm glad.

I'm 5'3

current weight is: 197

Goal Weight is: 150lbs  by end of august or beginning of SEPT.

Ultimate Weight Goal is: 135 or 140lbs

GOod Luck everyone that's modifying their diet on here. We are gonna do it!

Subject:A new start
Posted by:weighdownagain.
Time:9:04 am.
I am finally back on track (I HOPE!). I started Foodmover for sure on Friday (after 2-3 half-starts and also trying to figure out WHICH diet to do). It is Richard Simmons' plan and one I have done before, and I have done Richard's plans often dating back to Deal-A-Meal and the Never-Say-Diet plan of the early 80's. I have begun walking again too, and hope to add in strength training and aerobic tapes too.

After South Beach last year (a very good plan too, but one I just can't focus on right now due to all that's going on my life) on which I lost 18 pounds, I have gained back 13 pounds. Thank goodness the whole amount isn't back on. I've benein denial about why my 16's don't fit (this is a SMALL 16, oh, and THIS one is a small 16, okay, how can they ALL be now SMALL 16'S?) uGH, you get the picture. I have ballooned back up into 18's, trying to wear 16s, and resorting to sweat pants. So, give me a month, hopefully I can be back in 16's again. I hope... I can't afford to buy new clothes!

That is it for now - I want to try and write more often, though.

(old progress had been last summer -- 187-169-125.)

I'll get there....

Hello, I'm posting my first journal entry here to meet some new people and hopefully find some diet buddies! Good luck, everyone!

I finally have it set up the way I want with the background picture! Now I need to find some readers and blog my weight loss like I hope to!

Some of my history is at my home page on my diet page (http://www.criscollrj.com/weight%20journal.html) I plan to journal more here and hopefully meet a lot of great people in the mean time. This site is also interesting, the one I kept back in the late ninety's (http://www.geocities.com/dorifam/food.html).

I started dieting on and off at the age of 10. I am now 40, so a 30 year history!

but now I must go, 3 year old is crabby!

add me if you'd like!

I gained weight back to 168. That's not entirely accurate as it's Thursday and not Monday, but I know I haven't been eating much fat/high calorie foods lately. I had a bad week last week and did some emotional eating but it still wasn't too bad. It was no Chipotle. ;) The tricky part is that I'm gaining a lot of muscle. Working out every day does that so it's a weird balance and I technically shouldn't be watching my weight but measuring my inches every week. I know I've lost 1.5 inches off of my waist so far so maybe this weekend I'll re-measure everything.

I've also been trying to find the unique balance of healthy food versus tasty food versus CONVENIENT food. I've been bringing light apple sauce, string cheese, sammiches, etc. to work but I know I'm going to need to mix it up a bit. Any recommendations?

I've lost a total of 5.5lbs just by sort of following the South Beach Diet. I say sort of due to the fact that I had some things in my pantry that I did not want to throw out and are no-nos on this diet. Also, my work schedule has been crazy, so I've needed those carbs to keep me going. But, still, 5.5lbs is something to smile about.

Working out had been on hold due to a fall I took last week that but my back on the do not disturb list. Nothing broken or out of wack, just very sore and stiff for the first few days. I am healing well and doing stretches. Hopefully I will be able to begin working out next week.

I wanted to recommend Anita's Recipes. They have some really good stuff, and the search functions allow you to look for recipes by calorie or fat content. Happy cooking!

Subject:A good snack idea
Posted by:rubyblushu.
Time:2:55 pm.
This afternoon, my mom bought a bunch of veggies at the store-carrots, celery, grape tomatoes, and brocolli. When we got home, I arranged some of them on a plate, with a bowl of light Ranch dressing. Now, whenever I head into the kitchen this afternoon, I'll have something healthy to snack on. This is also good when you're having to wait for supper to finish cooking. It will keep you from snacking on chips, cookies, and other kinds of junk food.

Also, I have a question. I eat pretty healthy a good bit of the time. However, I worry about getting enough variety when it comes to fruits. I love Clementine oranges, and can eat apples (especially when I'm hungry), but those are about the only kinds of fruits I eat.

My question is, what kinds of fruit do y'all eat, and how do you eat them?
